The Initiation Division of Thompson Cariboo Minor Hockey in Ashcroft has had a busy season. We have a team of 20 kids between 5-8 years old from the Ashcroft, Cache Creek and Spences Bridge areas.

Our coaches Scott Brady (Head Coach), Kurtis Brown, Ryan Ouellette and Mike Walker, with help from some parents and Deanna Horsting, have done a wonderful job building the skills of these young players. Their time and patience is very much appreciated.

We had quite a few first-time skaters at the beginning of the season in October. For some, even standing on skates was a challenge. Now only a few months later each and every team member can skate!

The team has greatly improved their game play as well. The players are familiar with the positions of the game. They have improved as a team, no longer huddling around the puck, but spreading out and playing the positions.

We have played games against Initiation/Novice teams from Kamloops, Lillooet, Merritt, Logan Lake, Princeton, and 100 Mile House so far this year.

We participated in the Merritt Fun Day Feb. 5, a one day tournament. Our team played three games that day. Fun was had by all, and it was exciting to watch.

Our team participated in a tournament last week in Lillooet, and we will finish the season with a Home Game against 100 Mile House on Feb. 27, starting at 11 am in the Drylands Arena.

I have enjoyed watching these kids play this season. They are excellent little hockey players in the making. They have fun and are proud of themselves, which is an awesome sight to see. I encourage you to join us in watching and cheering on our young players!
