Royal Canadian Legion Branch #113 in Ashcroft held its first annual Children’s Christmas party on Dec. 16, and branch president George Cooke says it was a great success, with more than 100 area children aged 0–9 attending the event. “It was packed as soon as the doors opened at 10 a.m.”

There was face-painting and colouring, a visit with Santa, gifts and goodie bags for each child, and hot dogs and juice. The event was the brainchild of Steve and Amie Clark, and over the last few months a variety of fundraising events were held, including barbecues and events at the Legion.

More than $5,000 was fundraised for the event,, and Cooke says that they’re hoping to do it again next year. “We’ve made some plans for 2019 already.”
