When you’re going through a tough time and feel down, you’ve no doubt heard someone say: “Don’t give up!” And maybe as you continue to try, but fall short, you may have heard, “Trust the process and keep trying!” Well, that kind of tenacity is easier said than done. However, I know a group of 13-15 year old ladies who are proof that never giving up and trusting the process really does work!

Last year a group of 12 high school girls decided that they wanted to play basketball and so began practices for the Ashcroft Rams.

There is a lot to learn in any sport - everything from rules, etiquette, skills, plays and of course, teamwork. Learning happens in practice, in games and with experience. The team’s first game last year was against a Kamloops high school team who beat the brand new Rams team by 60 points. The Rams looked like deer caught in the headlights in that game. There was just so much they did not yet know.

The Rams choose to keep their heads up, to keep practicing and to keep learning. They never gave up, they had faith in the process and last week, the Jr. Rams played that same Kamloops team again. This time, the Rams celebrated a 20 point victory!

There is a lot we can learn from these 13, 14 and 15 year old ladies. Next time you find yourself wanting to give up or losing faith, remember to trust the process and never give up.

Come and watch the Rams in action at Ashcroft secondary this Friday/Saturday! The Jr. Girls and Boys Rams are hosting eight out of town teams. Games are on both Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23-24. The Jr. Girls’ first game is on Friday at 12 noon and the Jr. Boys’ first game is on Friday at 1:30. Come cheer and support your teams! Go Rams Go!
