Province-wide fall fair competitions

Get your photo or quilt entry ready for Sept. 11.

The Ashcroft and District Fall Fair committee would like to introduce you to two special provincial competitions: they are called “Member’s Choice Awards” because those members who represent their local fair at the annual provincial convention get to choose the winners from among the entries.

The entries come from the winners of special categories at fall fairs from across BC as well as our own Fair on Sept. 11. With five months until the Ashcroft Fall Fair, you have a good opportunity to carefully plan your entry.

Last year, a farming photo entered in our Fair by Josephine Boxwell was declared a provincial winner. Congratulations to Josephine! Her efforts also provided recognition of our local Fair within all the provincial fairs and exhibitions!

This year BC Fairs (BCAAFE) is sponsoring two more competitions. They felt that because last year’s photography competition was so impressive, they should repeat it for a different age group – Youth age 17 and under. Use your creativity and talent to take a colour photo relating to “Agriculture – Farm Buildings and/or Farm Equipment”. We are fortunate to have many photo opportunities nearby. The photo must not be larger than 8 X 10 and may not be digitally altered beyond the standard optimization. This entry needs to be mounted on a firm backing with a half inch to one inch black mat border.

The other category is open to all ages – a quilt block using an agricultural theme. This may include roosters, cows, barns, fruit, vegetables, tractors, etc, but must not be framed and must not include embellishments like button, bows, or appliqués. This entry can range in size from a minimum of 12 X 12 inches to a maximum of 24 X 24 inches.

This year the provincial winners will receive $50 and a plaque. The Ashcroft Fall Fair is looking forward to seeing your contributions.
