Clinton’s 150th Birthday
As mentioned in the June 6 edition of this publication, traffic came to a halt in Clinton on June 11. From 10 a.m. until noon, volunteers stopped traffic in front of the Village Office on Hwy 97 to hand out information packages, t-shirts and pins to the motoring public.
One of the volunteers, June Bourgo later commented what an amazing little town we live in! It was a great event and out of 450 or so vehicles we stopped only two were grumps and one just drove around the flagger and kept going. Most were really excited to be included for a moment in our celebrations.
At noon the festivities moved to the Memorial Hall to enjoy birthday cake that was cut and served by Mayor and Councillors. Then the students of David Stoddart School took over. Gloria Mertens’ drama class gave a performance that was enjoyed by approximately 70 people, and the Social Studies 9/10 class gave presentations on the history of Clinton.
Kudos to the 150/50 committee members, Village staff, mayor and councillors, the many volunteers, the flaggers, RCMP, Ambulance attendants, Clinton VFD members, students and their teachers who all helped make this such a successful event.
Clinton Bike Rodeo
The Clinton RCMP held a bike rodeo at Reg Conn Centennial Park on Saturday, June 15 from 1-4 p.m. The children of all ages were invited to learn about bicycle safety and try the obstacle course.
Approximately 40 children and their parents attended, and the kids had a great time manoeuvring through the obstacle course and getting lessons on bike safety from Cst. Jeff McMichaels as he led them through the course. The kids could also earn goodie bags by going through a series of stations and completing tasks at each one. Each entrant also had the chance to win a new bicycle.
The Clinton Lions Club kept everyone fed as they barbecued hotdogs throughout the event. Unfortunately the heavy rain cut the event short around 2 p.m. It poured so hard the water was bubbling up in the grass. I left before the bicycles were awarded so I do not have the names of the winners.
The community owes a big Thank You to Jeff and Shannon McMichaels and the rest of the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event possible. Also, thanks to the sponsors, Clinton RCMP, West Fraser, the 150/50 Committee, Make Children First and any one else who contributed. The Clinton BCAS was on site in case of injury but thankfully their services were not needed.
It takes a lot of time and hard work to put on an event such as this. We in Clinton are lucky to have dedicated people who are passionate enough to put on these events. Job well done!
Family Fun Day
The next 150/50 event scheduled in Clinton is a Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Reg Conn Centennial Park.
The event, Celebrating Literacy will demonstrate different learning skills through fun activities including seed planting, treasure hunt, scavenger hunt, face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, a story teller and other family games.
This is an event for the whole family. Everyone is welcome to come and take part, win prizes and enjoy a free lunch.
2012 Annual Report Presentation
There will be a Special Meeting on Friday, June 28 at noon in Council Chambers to present the 2012 Annual Report. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Music in the Park
There will be Music in the Park concerts in July and August at the bandshell in Reg Conn Centennial Park.
The following musicians and dates have now been confirmed: July 6 – local artists Lynn Shook Duo, Arlen Park, and more; July 20 – Dustin Bentall and Kendel Carson; Aug. 10 – Ridley Bent and Band; and Aug. 31 – Barney Bentall and Band.
