Ashcroft supports tsunami fundraiser

March 24 potluck at the Ashcroft Community Hall.

Ashcroft citizens are planning an Earthquake/Tsumani Relief Fundraiser for Japan on March 24, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Denise and Jerry Fiddick, Hiroku Kanamaru and her daughter Yoriko Susanj are organizing the fundraiser and rally in the form of a pot luck supper at the Ashcroft Community Hall, starting at 5:30 pm.

Kanamaru was born in Sendai, which received major amount of damage from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Ashcroft has also hosted over 25 people from Sendai over the past 10 years as part of an exchange program.

The town's sister city is Bifuka. Coun. Alice Durksen reported to Council that Bifuka  was not damaged in the catastrophe. Council decided to send a letter to the Mayor and Council of Bifuka expressing their sympathy and gratitude that Bifuka was safe.

Bring a potluck dish to the fundraiser, your own plates and utensils, plus a $5 donation.
