The nomination period for the 2018 Civic Election closed at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14. Promptly afterward, the Village of Clinton announced its Declaration of Candidates on their website.
Four Clinton residents – Diana Guerin, Roland Stanke, Susan Swan, and Ira Zbarsky – are in the running as 2018 candidates for the office of Mayor.
Eight candidates have put their names forward for the four councillor positions.
They are Sandra Burrage, Kim McIlravey, Laura Paquette, Theodore Pappas, David Park, Christine Rivett, Cynthia Robinson, and David Tapping.

School news
Kids at David Stoddart School (DSS) headed back to class this month with plenty of excitement surrounding a new year.
Snow greeted us early on the morning of Sept. 13, but the calendar assures everyone that it’s still not quite fall.
DSS students have already gotten into the fall spirit, though, as grades 7-12 participated in a fall fruit gathering that included collecting and canning crab apples, choke cherries, and rose hips – what a wonderful, applicable seasonal learning experience for our students.
PAC news
Clinton’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is seeking new members to join them this school year. Becoming part of the PAC means committing to getting involved in your child’s education. If that is something that matters to you, then perhaps you should consider joining the PAC at DSS.
The PAC needs new members this year to fill various executive positions and help to make a difference in the lives of students at Clinton’s school.
Babysitting is provided to members who attend PAC meetings and the group only meets once a month.

BBQ today
David Stoddart’s Welcome Barbecue will be held today at 5 p.m. Parents, grandparents, students and their families are invited to come out and enjoy a free hotdog or hamburger.
Simultaneously, families will get the chance to meet David Stoddart’s staff.
The first PAC meeting will be held after the barbecue, with babysitting services provided as usual.
Upcoming events
Stay tuned for upcoming details about the school’s annual dinner and auction in November, which serves as the key fundraiser for some of the extra activities that students and staff get to enjoy at DSS.
Terry Fox Run
The annual Terry Fox Run is set to take place at the school on Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to noon.
Anyone interested in helping out with this event is advised to contact Mrs. Conrad at the school, as volunteers are still needed.
Sign out students
Parents must visit the office when picking up their children during instructional hours or at lunch-time or recess.
Parents are asked to sign their children out with them by using the blue clipboard available in the school’s office.
Food Bank donations
Clinton’s local food bank has received a great number of donations from the community for which the organization would like to express its thanks.
After putting out a public call for pasta on their Facebook page a few weeks ago, the Clinton Food Bank (CFB) has since received a generous supply of pasta and other food products.
Integris Insurance Services donated to the CFB this September, along with the Old School Bar and Grill, and Clinton’s Community Gardens, which chose to donate fresh produce.
Chris and Diana Guerin, Marian Nelson, Nancy Rempel, Norm Fowler, and Katherine Turmel also donated graciously.
Bernie and Marnie Neiuwenhuis offered a donation of a large box of freshly picked cucumbers.
Clearly, the options for getting involved at the food bank really are limitless. Everyone can make a difference, if they so desire.

Village updates
Rivermist Excavating Ltd. will be working in Clinton on a waterline installation project that started Sept. 17.
Where possible, the company endeavours to employ locals to assist them on projects within the community.
While the company currently has employees scheduled for this particular job, it has two employment openings and hopes locals will fill the postings.
Two contract positions – one for a skilled labourer and one for an excavator/operator – have been posted for the duration of the project but include the potential for full time employment.
Head to the Village of Clinton’s website to find full job descriptions for these two opportunities. Both positions offer three to four weeks of scheduled work with the potential for full-time employment in the future.
