Crime in Princeton was down slightly in 2023 from the previous year, according to a report that will be presented to the Regional District of South Okanagan board Thursday, Feb. 8.
Overall violent crime dropped by five per cent, while property crime dropped by three per cent.
Sex offences were cut in half, with 10 investigations in 2022 and five for the past year.
Princeton RCMP responded to 1980 calls for service in 2023, compared to 2,110 in 2022.
Last year, there were 60 assaults reported, including common assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. In both 2022 and 2023, police were called for 24 reports of intimate partner violence.
Three residential break-ins that occurred between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 bumped the numbers in that property crime category, from four to nine.
On the year, break-ins to businesses dropped from 12 to five.
