Woman seriously hurt in train mishap

Surrey woman in coma

A young Surrey woman was left in serious condition after an unexplained mishap by the train tracks at Spatsum on July 8.

At 2:30 pm police and ambulance responded to the incident by the tracks next to Hwy 1 and closed the highway while the 23 year old woman was airlifted to Kamloops where she was placed in an induced coma. She had an open skull fracture among other injuries.

It is unclear at this time what happened to her. She had been travelling home from Fort St. John with her boyfriend and another friend when their car broke down. They couldn’t get cell phone reception, so while the friend walked down the highway for help, the woman went for a walk and was last seen wandering by the tracks. It is thought that she was either clipped by a train or fell from one of the bluffs. Police do not suspect foul play.
