2024 BOARD OF EDUCATION SCHOOL TRUSTEE BY-ELECTION

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN AS FOLLOWS:

NOTICE OF NOMINATION

Nomination for the office of School Trustee for Trustee Electoral Area:

Area E: Villages of Lytton, Spences Bridge and surrounding rural areas 1 (one) position

Will be received by the Chief Election Officer or designated person from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2024 to 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, excluding statutory holidays and weekends.

Nomination packages may be picked up and completed forms may be delivered to the office locations listed below between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (offices may be closed from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.). Nomination documents are also available on the school district website, www.sd74.bc.ca

Originals of emailed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE

A person is qualified under section 32 of the School Act to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a trustee of the Board of Education if they meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day (March 9, 2024)
  • Resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed;
  • Not disqualified under this Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office as a trustee, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
  • A person whose term of office as trustee has expired or is about to expire is eligible for re-election if the person is otherwise qualified to be a trustee.
  • At any one time, a person is not eligible to be nominated for or elected as trustee for more than one trustee electoral area for any one school district.

CAMPAIGN EXPENSE LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, the expense limit for candidates during the campaign period is $5,000.

THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, the third-party advertising expense limit is 809.84.
