August 12, 1933 - September 28, 2018
Daniel Patrick Hughes passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2018 at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops at the age of 85 years.
Danny is survived by his children Kevin Hughes, Sean (Peggy) Hughes, Ann Adamski, Carmel (Mike) Antoine, his grandchildren Amanda Murrell-Hughes, Daniel Adamski, Shyanne Antoine, and Tyler Antoine.
Danny was born August 12, 1933 and grew up on the family farm near the town of Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. He moved to Toronto when he was 18 years old and worked in the Northern Territories until he was 21. He then moved back to Ireland for some time before returning to Canada at the age of 25 to work for the city of Toronto. He married Myra Hulme on October 18, 1958.
While travelling to Australia Danny stopped in New Zealand where he was a welder. He had son Kevin, then travelled to Australia and lived there for a year, travelled to England where Sean was born, travelled back to Ireland where Ann was born, and then travelled to Vancouver where Carmel was born.
The family moved to Ashcroft in 1970 where Danny worked at Highland Valley Copper for the next 30 years. Danny was a true Irish Catholic in the community all his years. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, spending time with his family, especially his grand kids, watching soccer, socializing at the Ashcroft Royal Canadian Legion and attending their meat draws.
Danny was well known for his kindness to others in their greatest times of need.
He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years Myra Hughes, and his sister Marie Anderson.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from St. Gerard's Catholic Church in Ashcroft.
