It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Don Cargyle on Feb14th, 2018. He was a beloved Father to Kristen Cargyle, Brother to Darlene Cargyle and Uncle to Cole Birch and Aaron Keen.
Don was a sweet, gentle kind soul and will be forever missed. Don was a die hard Canucks fan, he loved to fish and play Keno. He was a golfer and a baseball fan.
Dons passing is significant because there are no longer any Cargyle's left in Ashcroft. The Cargyle family has lived in Ashcroft and surrounding areas for 158 years. His GG- grandfather William (Billy) Cargile was a pioneer of the Cariboo and a one time owner operator of Hat Creek Ranch (House) in 1881. Billy also built The Ashcroft Hotel twice. His G-grandfather Henry Cargile was also a pioneer in his own right and made his fortune in quartz mining the Cariboo. His grandfather Sydney Cargile lived and worked in Ashcroft his whole life. Sydney and Rose (nee Davis) raised 12 children in Ashcroft.
The Cargyle/Cargile family has very deep roots in the Cariboo and the surrounding aboriginal communities. Don will be forever loved and missed.
