Get out and cheer for your team

Dear Editor

On Thursday evening, I watched a very talented group of young ladies play basketball at Ashcroft Secondary School. How many of you out there were aware that we in Ashcroft have a team highly ranked in the Province? I would strongly urge you to come out and support them as they strive for a berth in the Provincial Championships, hosting he Okanagan Zone playoffs the latter part of February. Should they advance from there to the Provincials, they will be off to Sparwood.

These girls play a very up tempo game, from the opening tip off to the final buzzer, fast breaking at every opportunity provided, and pressuring opposing teams with a tenacious full court trapping pressure defense. They are really fun to watch. It would be great to see our community unite in support of their efforts to being a Provincial Championship to Ashcroft.

It was my privilege to watch the daughters of young ladies I had coached a few years ago, as well as staff that I had worked with, it was like deja vu, and it was great. I’e been watching basket all around the province for over 35 years and this is one of the most impressive teams I’ve seen. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the girl’s coaches, Vicky Trill and Patty Kinvig, in preparing the girls to compete at such a high level provincially.

Ashcroft will be hosting the Okanagan finals Feb. 24-26 at the Ashcroft Secondary School gymnasium. The Seattle Seahawks have the 12th man, their fans to support them. Let’s get out and be the 6th man for our girls play.
