Spring is almost here, which means that it is once more time to “Spring Into Action”, this year on March 18. The event—which provides an opportunity for local residents who run a home-based business or service, and local groups that promote outdoor activities or healthy lifestyle choices, to showcase that they offer—is at the Cache Creek Community Hall on Saturday, March 18 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The event, now in its fifth year, attracted more than 30 different displayers last year; and organizer Marcie Down says she has already had 20 applications for tables. “There’s room for more,” she says, noting that the $15-per-table fee includes tables and chairs, which are provided and set-up for those taking part. The money raised will go to the Cache Creek Activities Program.
“It’s a chance to spread the word about what’s happening in our area,” says Down, noting that a wide variety of organizations and businesses have already signed up. She hopes to have a concession, and is also looking for local musicians willing to provide entertainment, or people who could do demonstrations of what they offer, such as yoga or Zumba.
Down adds that there will be an opportunity for people to sign up for the new Cache Creek Softball Association, which will start offering organized softball games at the Cache Creek park in the spring of 2017; the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of Cache Creek. Softball in various forms is being offered for anyone aged three and older, with the emphasis in the first season on learning to play.
“The people who want [softball] played it as youth, and they want to see it played again on our fields,” says Down, who says that while the league is based in Cache Creek, the teams are open to anyone in the area. “It’s absolutely open to everyone. The more people we get, the more teams we can have.
“And maybe we can have games with other communities. We’d love to have Ashcroft teams eventually, but that’s down the road.”
T-ball will be offered for those aged three to six, while there will be slo-pitch for people aged 19 and older. Down anticipates that play will start in April or May, and adds that they are still looking for coaches and volunteers.
