Vimy Ridge

I watched the very moving ceremony to commemorate the battle of Vimy Ridge in France, in which so many brave Canadians fought and so many died.

I was very proud of the speeches by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor-General David Johnston and the performances of our Canadian artists.

The participation in the ceremony by Canadian Indigenous people was very fitting, as so many of them fought alongside the rest of the Canadian troops during that battle.

Thankfully, we have not shirked what we saw—and still see—as our duty to go to the aid of others. That is a true Canadian trait, to protect others and strive for peace. May we never give up in this quest.

Easter breakfast

The churches of Clinton are sponsoring a complimentary Easter ranchers’-style breakfast on Easter Sunday (April 16), beginning at 9 a.m. in the Clinton Memorial Hall. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy breakfast, fellowship, entertainment, and an Easter message.

Easter egg hunt

There will be an Easter egg hunt for children under the age of 10 in Reg Conn Centennial Park beginning at 1 p.m. on Easter Sunday. The Easter Bunny will be on hand, and there will be prizes and refreshments. Bring the little ones and have some fun.

For more information, or to offer to help with this, please phone Sandi Burrage at (250) 459-7013.

Free dump day

As they have in past years, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District is offering a free waste disposal day, where residents may bring one free load per household to the local Eco-Depot. “One load” is defined as a maximum of one eight-foot pick-up truck box or one eight-foot trailer.

Residents can save money on materials for which there are normally disposal fee charges. These include cooling appliances, tires on rims, mattresses, furniture, demolition/construction waste, wood waste, roofing shingles, and household garbage. The free disposal day applies to residential customers only. Regular disposal fees will apply to all business/commercial loads.

The free disposal day at the Clinton Eco-Depot will be on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Book and Bake sale

On Saturday, April 22 the Clinton Seniors Association will hold a Book and Bake sale at the Clinton Seniors Centre at 217 Smith Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come and enjoy hotdogs, pick up some home baking and books, and support the Seniors Association.

Play unplugged and story night

The Learning Curve/Clinton Literacy is hosting a “Play Unplugged and Story Night” on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. in the David Stoddart School library. Parents are invited to bring their children and stay, play, and enjoy. This is open to everyone.

Happy Easter

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter. Enjoy time with family and friends and, if you’re travelling, stay safe on our roadways. Happy Easter!
