The movie industry stuntmen came to have a look at the ice races at Barnes Lake: Dustin Brooks, JJ Makaro and Duane Dickenson. JJ and Dustin are the son and grandson of Ida Makaro of Cache Creek, former Journal columnist. Duane Dickenson was born and raised in Cache Creek and graduated from Ashcroft Secondary School, son of Dave and Noella Dickenson who now live in Kamloops. Dustin Brooks participated in the novice classes and achieved his ticket in order to qualify as an ice racer. They all had a most enjoyable time and they will be back. The ice racers enjoyed a perfect day in the sunshine Saturday, Feb. 5 but got shut down the following day due to a heavy snowstorm which hit the area.
